Shooting victim who didn t appear for suspect s trial arrested on unrelated warrants | WHOP 1230 AM

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio May 10, 2021 | 7:53 PM The alleged victim who didn’t appear in court and delayed the first trial in Christian Circuit Court since the pandemic began last week is in jail on unrelated warrants. Hopkinsville police on Monday served 39-year old Derrell Bateman of Hopkinsville with warrants for contempt of court relating to child support arrears and for failure to appear in court to face misdemeanor theft charges. Bateman was shot at East Second and Vine Street in February of last year and Travis Mayes is charged with first-degree assault in connection with the incident. His trial, which had been scheduled for May 3, was postponed until September 20 when Bateman didn’t appear in court.

Trial date set in Brafman attempted murder case

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio May 6, 2021 4:25 PM A possible reduction in bond is still under advisement for Karen Brafman, the woman charged with attempted murder and arson for allegedly setting fire to a mobile home with a family inside, but a new trial date was set in Christian Circuit Court. The hearing was continued to Thursday from the last proceeding to allow for more information to be given to the judge before he made a decision, with defense attorney Eric Bearden saying she has two locations that she could reside, one out of the county, and she would be willing to find employment immediately.

Evidence main topic of Pembroke triple-murder suspect hearing

Judge John Atkins assured him that if the report isn’t filed come Monday, they will both be angry and they will respond accordingly from there.  Two witnesses were questioned during Thursday’s proceedings about a search warrant that was done on a safe belonging to Martin in 2016, with the defense arguing the dates on the warrant don’t line up with when items inside of it, including a handgun, were seized. Judge Atkins continued proceedings to May 21, telling Martin and all involved that they will continue evidence discussions at that time and take up other matters if need be, with trial set to begin on June 1.

Evidentiary hearing set in Pembroke triple murder case

The suspect accused of the 2015 Pembroke triple murder appeared in Christian Circuit Court Thursday afternoon with his attorneys to discuss several matters pertaining to evidence in the case. Christian Martin, 52, appeared in court via Zoom while at the Christian County Jail while his defense attorney Tom Griffiths appeared from his office and Doug Moore appeared in person in Circuit Court Judge John Atkins’ courtroom. Griffiths began the meeting by requesting an evidentiary hearing be set to argue against a shell casing being used as evidence in the upcoming trial. “We were seeking to have an evidentiary hearing on a different day and my motion is to set a hearing so that we can hear from the witnesses and determine the chain of custody issue,” Griffiths said to the court.

College Street Murder Defendant Wants Prosecutor s Office Disqualified From Hearing Case

25-year old Kachelle Isbell was indicted April 23 for the murder of 33-year old Anthony Johnson. Isbell and her court-appointed attorney, Douglas Moore, appeared virtually before Judge Andrew Self. Moore entered a not guilty plea and asked Judge Self to set a hearing because he wants to call two witnesses. Moore indicated he had filed a motion to disqualify the commonwealth’s attorney’s office from prosecuting the case with Judge Self indicating he didn’t have a response from Rick Boling. click to download audioJudge Self set a hearing for Thursday morning, May 13, at 10:30. Isbell was charged with murder after Hopkinsville police responded to College Street in the early morning hours of April 3 and found Johnson with a gunshot wound to his neck. Police located Isbell at the scene of the shooting with a gun where she reportedly admitted to shooting Johnson.
