Car crosses center line resulting in fatal crash near Carver Bridge
A Portland woman was killed Jan. 25 after her car crossed the center line and collided with another car, injuring that driver and killing her dog, deputies said.
When authorities got to the crash, they found two cars with major front-end damage. Both drivers were still trapped inside their cars along the 15200 block of South Springwater Road in unincorporated Oregon City, just south of the Carver Bridge.
Emergency crews worked to free the drivers. Deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff s Office learned one of the cars a Toyota Celica driven by 52-year-old Veronica Lynn Zearing of Portland had suddenly crossed the center line and hit a Volvo C30 driven by a 62-year-old Happy Valley woman.

Oregon legislative panel starts hearing policing bills
Lawmakers continue work originating from 2020 protests of George Floyd s death.
Five lawmakers on a House subcommittee will focus on Oregon s policing practices and the people who carry them out.
They have already started public hearings on more than a dozen bills, some of them overlapping, that propose various changes to Oregon laws in the aftermath of last year s death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer and the nationwide protests it triggered.
One hearing on two bills is scheduled Monday, Feb. 1.
The subcommittee chair is Rep. Janelle Bynum, a Democrat from Clackamas who also leads the full House Judiciary Committee. Her District 51 straddles Multnomah and Clackamas counties.
