COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a request from Commission On Aging Executive Director Amy Duff on Tuesday to continue providing hazard pay to the In-Home Services Aides.
Because of the potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus, hazard pay was previously approved from July of 2020 until this past February.
The State of Michigan has extended the program until this September.
Duff said during last weekâs work session that the reimbursement from the state for hazard pay has nearly covered all expenses but she was still anticipating a shortfall of just under $1,900.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request from Sheriff John Pollack during Thursdayâs work session to use unexpended wages so that an applicant for a road deputy position can get academy training.
Formal action is scheduled to take place during next Tuesdayâs meeting.
Pollack said in his request to Commissioners that they only got two applications to fill a deputy position which opened in the middle of January. Both of the applicants are working as corrections officers for the Sheriffâs Department.
She added reimbursement from the state for hazard pay has nearly covered all expenses but not entirely. There were two grant periods when they did not get the amount requested. Duff said the shortfall of just under $1,900 was fairly manageable.
Commissioners also brought forward a request to update the C.O.A. Background Check policy to meet new grant requirements. Duff says state and federal grants for senior services now require employees and volunteers to be checked against the Sex Offender Registries at the state and national level.
Commissioners are scheduled to take formal action on the requests Tuesday afternoon.
