17 perish, 11 injured in Kwara auto crash

No fewer than 17 people were roasted alive in a ghastly motor accident at Olokonla, along Bode-Saadu-Jebba Expressway in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Also, 11persons sustained severe injuries in the auto crash The road traffic crash involving three vehicles, a blue colour commercial Mark Truck GGE614XM, white colour commercial Mitsubishi Canter Truck BRK534YX, and white colour Toyota Hummer bus with registration number KEY479YE, occurred at about 3:00 am yesterday.
An eyewitness told Sunday Vanguard that loss of control by the driver of the Toyota bus, while he was trying to overtake a lorry loaded with pepper and a truck that was ahead of him, resulted in a head-on collision with another truck that was coming from another lane.

One of the very few people in this country, who have been fortunate to rule two states at different times, is Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a prince of Okuku, Osun State. He was a Military Administrator of Lagos State from December 1993 to August 1996.
Nine years after leaving Lagos, he was sworn in as the elected governor of Osun State on May 29, 2003 and remained on the seat till November 26, 2010. He later became the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party and later, Chairman of the National Identity Management Company (NIMC).

The Kwara state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the incident occurred around 3:00 am on Saturday.
The command quoted Jonathan Owoade, the sector commander, as saying the cause of the crash was over speeding and wrongful overtaking.
He said 17 persons were badly burnt, adding that the accident involved a blue commercial MAK Truck GGE614XM, a white commercial Mitsubishi canter truck BRK534YX and a white Toyota Hummer bus KEY479YE.

“The multiple road traffic crash occurred at about 3am today, at a location called Oloko area, which involved 3 vehicles: a blue commercial MAK Truck GGE614XM, a white commercial Mitsubishi canter Truck BRK534YX and a white Toyota Hummer bus KEY479YE,” he said.
Zero tolerance: Sanwo-Olu sets up special traffic enforcement team on Apapa gridlock

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the constitution of a Special Traffic Management and Enforcement Compliance Team to resolve the traffic gridlock in and around Apapa.
The measure has become necessary following the resurgence of gridlock along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and environ.
Members of the team are Toyin Fayinka, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Engr. Olajide Oduyoye, General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Sola Giwa, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the Governor on Central Business Districts, and Ayodeji Laurent, SSA to the Governor on Political Security Intelligence.
FRSC: Report unprofessional conduct of personnel FRSC Boss

The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has called on the public to leverage on the “Flagit” Anti- Corruption App, to report unprofessional and professional conduct exhibited by FRSC staff for punishment and reward where applicable.
Oyeyemi made the call while reviewing the impact of the app on the conduct of the staff.
He noted that as a public institution, the management of the FRSC has made several conscious attempts to ensure zero tolerance to the corruption that has impacted positively on service delivery.
