Police in Ikorodu arrests 242 armed robbers, record 192 cultism cases in one year, says Lagos CP

Lagos State Police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu The Lagos state commissioner of police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, on Wednesday, said the state Command had arrested 242 armed robbers, and recorded 192 cultism cases, out of which 172 had been filed in various courts, within a year, in Ikorodu division. Odumosu, who disclosed this at a town hall meeting on security, held at the Ikorodu town hall, in Lagos, added that 28 arms and 120 ammunitions were also recovered from suspected criminals, while 17 vehicles were impounded and 18 criminal cases recorded in the division. The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that community leaders, the representative of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Traffic Management Authority LASTMA, VGN and other security agencies attended the meeting.

The bye-election will hold on Saturday, February 6. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Sam Egwu, who gave the assurance in Minna on Wednesday while exchanging views with newsmen, said: “We have made adequate arrangements for security personnel to man all the polling stations where election will take place.” Egwu said no fewer than 1,270 policemen have been mobilised to man the 307 polling units in the two local government areas in addition to a large number of men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

FG releases fresh regulations for Covid-19 On President Mohammadu Buhari Wednesday issued Coronavirus Disease Health Protection Regulations 2021. The President, through a statement from the Ministry of Information and Culture, said a physical distance of at least two metres shall be maintained at all times between persons at all gatherings. Notwithstanding the provision of Regulation 1, he also insisted that no gathering of more than 50 persons shall hold in an enclosed space, except for religious purposes, in which case the gathering shall not exceed 50% capacity of the space. The President in the statement all directed that all persons in public gatherings, whether in enclosed or open spaces, shall adhere to the provisions of Part 2 of these Regulations.

Harmattan: FRSC implores motorists against excessive speeding On Kindly Share This Story: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists against excessive speeding especially during the harmattan and dry season to minimise crashes. Mr Ahmed Umar, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun. Umar noted that poor visibility was associated with harmattan and dry season, saying there is a need for motorists to reduce speeding during the period. He added that poor visibility was part of the causes of road traffic crashes during the period and sometimes results in the loss of lives and property.
