Water quality at 12 beaches in Mayo is excellent , while the quality is good at another three beaches in the county, according to a new report from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Its annual report for 2020 shows that 96% of Ireland s bathing waters are meeting, or exceeding, EU minimum standards.
In Mayo, Carrowmore beach in Louisburg, Clare Island beach, Dooega, Doogort, Golden Strand, Keel and Keem beaches in Achill, EllyBay -Belmullet, Mullaghroe Beach, Mulranny, Rinroe beach in Carrowtigee and Ross Beach in Killala are all deemed to have excellent water quality, while Bertra beach in Murrisk, Carrowniskey and Old Head beaches in Louisburg are described as good water quality.

This will involve up-skilling all its 200 staff based in Galway, and will create about 20 new jobs over the next 3 years.

Hotels across the region are reporting an uplift in bookings for June, July and August, following the recent go-ahead from Government to reopen their doors from 2nd June.
Darren Madden, owner of the Clew Bay Hotel in Westport, says his team are now busy preparing the hotel to welcome back guests, having been closed since last October.
Darren is also chairman of the Mayo branch of the Irish Hotels Federation.

Rents in Connacht rise by almost 8% in Q1
Rents in Connacht rose by almost 8% in the first quarter of this year, according to the latest report from property website Daft.ie
This increase reflects a sharp fall in availability.
In Mayo, rents were on average 8.3% higher than a year ago, with the average listed rent now at €798 per month.
Nationally rents increased by 2% in the first three months of this year.
In Dublin, rents have fallen by 6.5% in the city centre, where the average monthly rent is now €1,974.
In Galway, Cork and Limerick cities, rents are 6% higher than a year ago.

The Road Safety Authority says it will be making online theory tests available to all drivers later this month.
Over 100 thousand people are now waiting to sit the test after centres had to close during the Level 5 lockdown.
At the moment, online assessments are only available to people who are sitting exams to get a learner permit for a bus or a truck.
RSA Spokesman Brian Farrell says the backlog won t be cleared until theory test centres can reopen.
