Coimbatore district on Sunday registered a further rise in COVID-19 cases after 1,441 persons tested positive for the disease.
The district had 7,683 active cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and 1,051 persons recovered from the disease.
Coimbatore district’s death toll increased to 726 after three persons died of COVID-19.
The Health Department said that two women aged 58 and 38 died of COVID-19 at a private hospital and at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Friday. Another woman aged 70 succumbed to the disease at CMCH on Saturday.
Tiruppur district reported two COVID-19 deaths and 382 new cases, taking the tally to 27,230 cases.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for murdering his roommate by stabbing at Pandian Nagar in the city. The accused identified as Rajkumar allegedly had an altercation with Chinraj regarding consumption of liquor, following which Rajkumar allegedly stabbed Chinraj in the neck late on Friday. Based on the complaint of other roommates, the police registered a case against Rajkumar under section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded him in judicial custody.

The Veerapandi police on Saturday arrested two history-sheeters on the charges of stealing cash and jewellery from a residence on Dharapuram Road. Vaccination centres in the district administered COVID-19 vaccines to people aged above 45 on Saturday as the government could not roll out the drive for the 18-45 age group, due to shortage of vaccines, as planned earlier.
The Health Department late on Friday said that a total of 8,500 doses of Covishield vaccine were allotted to vaccination centres at two government medical college hospitals, 12 block primary health centres and 13 government hospitals. A total of 4,000 doses were allotted to the five zones of Coimbatore Corporation. These doses were used on Saturday.

A total of 1,257 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Coimbatore district on Saturday, the highest daily caseload reported so far in the district.
The district had 7,288 active cases of the disease, according to the Health Department.
According to the Department, 913 persons got discharged from treatment centres on Saturday.
The district’s death toll reached 723 after a 63-year-old woman died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
Tiruppur district’s daily caseload saw a slight increase on Saturday with the reporting of 438 new cases, which took the tally to 26,850 cases.

T.N.’s toll surpasses 14,000; over 10.37 lakh people have been discharged so far after treatment
The State added 18,692 more cases of COVID-19 on Friday, taking its tally to 11,66,756. Another 113 persons succumbed to the infection, taking the toll to 14,046. Active cases touched 1,15,128.
As many as 16,007 people were discharged after treatment, taking the total figure to 10,37,582.
In Chennai, 5,473 people tested positive for the infection, taking the tally to 31,222. As many as 5,327 people were discharged in the district after treatment. It also logged 42 fatalities due to the infection.
