Voice of the people: Derrick Turner

Voice of the people: Derrick Turner Appreciates Columbus teachers As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, I would like to pay special tribute to some of my favorites educators. I attended Mitchell Memorial for the First, Second and Fourth Grades. Then attended Coleman Elementary for the Third Grade and Hughes Elementary for the Fifth and Sixth Grades. Ms. Green was my first-grade teacher Along with Carmichael Egnew, Curtis Cunningham, Marilyn Egnew, Harold Phifer, and Freeman Webber, we learned to read, write and say the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Murray was my second-grade class, where she taught us the importance of being polite and respectful. Often she would remind me that she had taught my “folks,” which meant she knew my mom, aunts and uncles. And that fact along, ensured I was always on my behavior.
