Care homes say fee increase does not cover basic cost of care.

Care homes in North Somerset have hit out at the ‘disappointing’ increase in fees which they say will not cover the basic cost of care.
North Somerset Council has increased the fees it pays to care homes by three per cent, while Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG) has upped its contribution by the same amount.
Care home owners say the money is not enough for a sector which has been ravaged by the pandemic, leaving many homes on the brink of closure. Care homes are also struggling with low occupancy, due to Covid, and a huge increase in insurance costs.
Gloucestershire’s GP leaders are continuing to urge residents who have had their first Covid-19 vaccination to attend their second dose appointments as planned. The large majority of people aged 50 years or over and people with underlying health conditions have had their first doses. Clinical Chair of NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, Dr Andy Seymour, said: “A single dose of the vaccine provides a good level of protection from Covid-19, but the second dose is essential to ensure the best possible protection. “Second dose vaccines have been allocated for every person who has had their first dose, so please do attend your appointment. This ‘top-up’ will maximise your protection from the virus.”

A series of workshops are being held to discuss the proposed relocation of Graham Road Surgery to a new medical centre on the Weston Rugby Club site.
The workshops have been organised by Healthwatch North Somerset, Pier Health Group and Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group to enable people to voice their views.
The first session, on April 22, will look at transport and accessibility. On April 30, the workshop will consider the use of sporting facilities and recreational space at the site to enhance health and wellbeing opportunities.
On May 7, the session will focus on how primary care services will operate, and how health and social care services can ‘join up’. On May 12, a final session will be held to summarise previous workshops.
