Cold snap forces school bus cancellations across Saskatchewan

(The Associated Press) comments Several school divisions in Saskatchewan have cancelled bus service for its students due to persisting cold weather.  All school buses and para transit for Regina Public and Regina Catholic schools were cancelled Thursday morning due to the extreme wind chill values. All schools remain open.  Saskatoon Public School Division has also cancelled all its bus services as temperatures felt as cold as  -54 C with the windchill. All schools are open and classes will run as scheduled.

Increased risk of COVID-19 exposure in St Louis

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is alerting the public about an increased COVID-19 exposure risk in the St. Louis area. According to a media release, because of some cases related to events in St. Louis, which resulted in the spread to same household members, there is an increased risk of COVID-19. The increased risk of exposure is for those who may have attended any outdoor recreational events, poker rallies and poker card parties outside of their home since Christmas. The SHA says those who were at any of the listed events should immediately self isolate and call HealthLine 811. They also instruct those who were told by someone from the events they tested positive for COVID-19 and were in contact with them for more than 15 minutes to self isolate immediately. They recommend those who had any interaction with the events but are not experiencing symptoms to consider getting tested.

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Saskatoon bar

Google Maps Six cases of COVID-19 have been linked to a Saskatoon bar and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is worried about further spread. The SHA declared an outbreak on Tuesday at the Feisty Goat Bar and Grill on Diefenbaker Drive. It says at least one person was there while infectious on Jan. 23. Any person who attended the business on that date should immediately self-isolate and call HealthLine 811 if they develop symptoms. Exposure risk in St. Louis The SHA is also alerting the public about an increased COVID-19 exposure risk in the St. Louis area. COVID cases reported at three P A schools

The media release did not give details on the precise numbers of those impacted at St. Louis. The school division said it was recently informed of the positive COVID-19 test results and communication is being shared with the classrooms/cohorts, the connected staff, as well as with the school community. The learning program will continue remotely only for those students and staff affected while in-person learning will continue for the rest of the school. All Catholic and public division school buses cancelled Monday

The extreme cold also forced the cancellation of all Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division buses. Schools remain open. Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning Monday morning. An arctic ridge of high pressure is bringing frigid temperatures to portions of central Saskatchewan and Manitoba and extreme windchills of -40 C or colder. Temperatures are expected to moderate slightly Monday morning. However, extreme cold will return for a third night to some areas on Monday evening into Tuesday.
