Sacramento Authorities Hope Recent Illegal Fireworks Arrest Shows Department Means Business With Crackdown

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Fireworks can bring plenty of oohs and aahs, but illegal ones can also bring handcuffs.
“Hopefully people realize that if they’re selling illegal fireworks, to stop, because we will seek out and try to make arrests,” said Cpt. Chris Vestal with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
One of those arrests come last Friday.
Investigators charged a man with two felonies and a misdemeanor for allegedly selling illegal fireworks, taking more than 100 pounds of them off the street. The hope is this fireworks arrest shows they mean business for those who set them off.

In January, when over 700 people incarcerated at the jail contracted Covid-19 in less than a month, Pitre said that he started to display symptoms, describing aches, pains, and shortness of breath. Despite filing multiple medical requests, he said, he was given only Tylenol by jail staff, many of whom refused to wear masks. When Pitre tested positive, according to his attorney Megan Hopkins, his requests for medical evaluation went ignored. “They’ve moved him multiple times, and they won’t even replace the blankets he was using when he had the virus,” said Hopkins. “It took weeks for them to even give him an inhaler for his asthma.”
California Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Unlawfully Possessing a Gun Details Written by IVN
Sacramento, California - U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley sentenced Billy Paul Dunn, 48, of Sacramento, today to 10 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.
According to court documents, Dunn has been previously convicted of six felony offenses as well as misdemeanor crimes of violence for threats with intent to terrorize, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery on a non-cohabitating spouse. Dunn was released from state custody on Post Release Community Supervision in October 2019. In August 2020, Dunn was arrested with a loaded gun.
