The impact of Buffalo Bills beating the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday night has been felt all throughout Western New York, including Fredonia. Johnson Street in Fredonia, which is right off Berry Road, has undergone an unofficial name change because of Fredonia resident Mike Rukavina. A sign with the name “Taron” has been added to the Johnson Street sign, in honor of Bills cornerback Taron Johnson who made the biggest play of Saturday’s game with a 101-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Village attorney Joe Calimeri stated that the village was contacted by the New York-based law firm Napoli Shkolnik, which is litigating a case on behalf of municipal water suppliers affected by contaminants including PFNA.

Nursing Home COVID Deaths Climb | News, Sports, Jobs

More COVID-19-related deaths have been reported at nursing homes in Chautauqua County. According to data compiled by the New York State Department of Health, 18 residents have died due to complications associated with the coronavirus inside local nursing facilities. Of those, 14 were residents of Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk; two were residents of Absolut Care of Westfield; and two were residents of Heritage Green in Greenhurst. To date one resident at The Magnolia, an adult care facility in Frewsburg, also has died, according to information released by the state that tracks COVID-related fatalities and last updated Sunday afternoon. The data, however, does not include those who were transported from nursing homes or adult care facilities to the hospital and then died there.

Frewsburg Schools Shift Focus To COVID-19 Vaccine | News, Sports, Jobs

dphillips@post-journal.com FREWSBURG The Frewsburg Central School District is now shifting its focus during the COVID-19 pandemic to getting teachers and other school staff vaccinated. On Thursday during the Frewsburg Central School District Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Shelly O’Boyle said district officials’ focus has shifted to the vaccination now that teachers and other school personal, which includes board of education members, are eligible to be inoculated. O’Boyle also discussed how she had a conversation with a CVS official about using the school building to vaccinate all employees who would like to receive the shot, which is not being mandated by district personnel. She said even though school personnel has been allowed to receive the vaccination since Jan. 11, it’s been difficult to make an appointment to receive the vaccination.
