Sherman Sees Improvements In Student Test Results | News, Sports, Jobs

Dave Prenatt SHERMAN There was a tremendous improvement in students’ iReady diagnostic test results from September to December, Sherman Central School board members learned recently. Principal Ann Morrison told the board that iReady is a comprehensive test administered to all students. “We ran the first diagnostic for iReady in September,” she said. “We ran the second in December and there was huge, huge growth.” iReady is a diagnostic assessment which determines competency on Common Core math and reading skills, Morrison said. She explained that students in Tier 1 are proficient in math and reading skills and students in tier 2 are performing at grade level.

Hospitalizations hit new high in county | News, Sports, Jobs

churst@post-journal.com Three more people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus as the Chautauqua County Health Department reported 81 new cases on Tuesday. The numbers, which reflect positive tests recorded on Monday, increase the county’s active COVID caseload to 441. There are now 38 people hospitalized with the virus in the county, the most since the beginning of the pandemic, breaking the previous high of 37 recorded on Dec. 22. Hospitalizations remained in the 30s since Dec. 15. Nineteen new cases were reported in Jamestown, which now has 125 active cases. Active cases increased in Dunkirk by 23 to 64 and nine more cases were reported in Fredonia, which now has 31 active cases.

The numbers, which reflect positive tests recorded on Monday, increase the county’s active caseload to 441. There are now 38 people hospitalized with the virus in the county. Nineteen new cases were reported in Jamestown, 23 were reported in Dunkirk and nine were reported in Fredonia. There are now 125 active cases in Jamestown, while Dunkirk now has 64.
