A male dirt bike rider has been airlifted to hospital by the LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter after a crash into a tree stump in the Gympie region.

Subscriber only A man was cut free from his vehicle after a two-car crash on a Sunshine Coast hinterland road. The man in his 70s was flown to a Brisbane hospital in a critical condition. Emergency services were called to the scene on Landsborough-Maleny Road and Grandview Drive around midday on Thursday. A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the man was trapped in his vehicle when first responders arrived. Three Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to the two-car crash and used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the man. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman treated the man and a woman.
