PANAMA CITY The fruits and vegetables benefit for WIC families is set to increase for the next four months.
According to a news release from the Florida Department of Health, the WIC program, which helps low-income women, infants and children, will implement the Cash Value Benefit increase from June 1 to Sept. 30.
WIC’s vegetables and fruits voucher is known as the Cash Value Benefit (CVB). The CVB is credited with improving the dietary quality of WIC participants and reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity among WIC toddlers.
All children 1-4 years old and women who participate in the WIC Program will receive an increase in their fruits and vegetables cash voucher to $35 per participant, per month.
The crash occurred at about 11:32 p.m. on Wednesday on Thomas Drive, just east of the intersection of Chickasaw Street. The victims, two men of Jennings, Louisiana, two women of Jennings, Louisiana and one man of Youngsville, Louisiana, were all occupying an eight-seater golf cart, traveling westbound within the outside lane on Thomas Drive.
Victims and witnesses stated a newer model gray Dodge Charger with a rear spoiler and a Georgia tag rear-ended the golf cart while it was also traveling westbound. The crash caused three of the five occupants to be ejected and caused the golf cart to run off the roadway onto the north shoulder and crash into a tree line, which borders an empty lot.
