Majority of Georgia Voters Say Gun Control Won t Stop Mass Shootings

A University of Georgia School of Public & International Affairs poll conducted for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) found the vast majority of Georgians do not believe more gun control would prevent mass shootings. The poll, reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, asked, “How confident are you that passing stricter gun control laws would reduce mass shootings in this country?” Nearly 49 percent of respondents said they were “not confident at all” more gun control would do the trick while another 12 percent said they were “not so confident” in gun control as a solution either. In other words, 61 percent of respondents were not ready to put their hope in gun control.

House GOP Says David Chipman Is an Enemy of the Second Amendment

4 May 2021 Nearly 70 House Republicans sent a letter to their Senate colleagues Monday suggesting Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) nominee David Chipman is an “enemy of the Second Amendment.” The GOP members subsequently asked Republican Senators to reject Chipman’s nomination. Fox News obtained a copy of the letter and published excerpts, which included a description of Chipman as a “longtime gun control activist and lobbyist.” The House Republicans expressed concern that Chipman would use the National Firearms Act (1934) to effectively ban, via policy, firearms that Congress has refused to ban via legislation. The GOP members added, “If confirmed, David Chipman would use every tool at his disposal to attack American gun owners and we respectfully ask you to oppose any and all action that would advance his confirmation in the Senate.”

Fact Check: Joe Biden Says 1994 Assault Weapons Ban Lowered Gun Crime

28 Apr 2021 CLAIM: During his April 28, 2021, speech to Congress, President Joe Biden claimed the 1994 “assault weapons” ban lowered gun crime. VERDICT: False. The Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice (NIJ) released a report as the federal “assault weapons” ban was about to expire, noting no reduction in gun crime that could be credited to the ban itself. The Washington Times quoted the report’s lead researcher saying, “There has been no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence.” Biden twice made his claim about the alleged effectiveness of the “assault weapons” ban. First, he referenced passing the ban in the 1990s, adding, “We beat the NRA. Mass shootings and gun violence declined.”

Biden Calls for Ban on High-Capacity Magazines That Hold 100 Rounds

28 Apr 2021 During his April 28, 2021, speech to Congress, President Biden called for a ban on “high-capacity magazines that hold 100 rounds.” He reiterated his point seconds later, saying: We need a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines again. Don’t tell me it can’t be done. We’ve done it before … and it worked. Talk to most responsible gun owners, most hunters – they’ll tell you there’s no possible justification for having 100 rounds – 100 bullets – in a weapon. Biden also called for an “assault weapons” ban, universal background checks, and new regulations on guns that are built from parts kits.
