Prime Minister Narendra Modi hands over the Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1A) to the Army CHENNAI: Just ahead of the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated some completed projects, including phase-1 extension of Chennai Metro Rail, and laid foundation stones for some others. He handed over the indigenously designed, developed and manufactured Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1 A) to the Army. The projects of the state and central governments, aimed at taking Tamil Nadu to a higher growth trajectory, were launched at a packed Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Flanked by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam, Modi commissioned the passenger services of Chennai Metro Rail between Washermenpet and Wimco Nagar. The phase-1 extension of the metro rail, costing Rs 3,770 crore, covers a distance of 9.05km, linking North Chennai with the Airport and Central railway station.
