PEARL, Miss. (WDAM) The University of Southern Mississippi limited the nation’s second-ranked college baseball team to four runs Wednesday night at Trustmark Park.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, USM managed just three more baserunners in nine innings than what Mississippi State University’ sent across home plate.
Four MSU pitchers combined to check the Golden Eagles on three hits and strike out 20 USM batters as the Bulldogs took a 4-1 victory.

Ben Fortner Jr., of Alabaster, Alabama, was born on Jan. 27, 1944 and went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021.
He was a loving, devoted, and supportive husband for 53 years. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster, Alabama. Ben proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, Spec5, he served July 1967- July 1969 at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, and Long Binh, Vietnam.
He was a coder in a data processing unit. Ben loved flying planes. He also built and flew remote control planes, helicopters, and drones. He was an avid toy collector. In his later years, Ben’s most favorite hobby was going to some special’s friend’s lake house and working on projects, socializing, and occasionally got in a little fishing.
