Steel city cancels Basanti Durga Puja and Ram Navami celebrations

The Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti has decided to cancel Basanti Durga Puja and Ram Navami celebrations for the second consecutive year due to the second wave of Covid-19. The 10-day Basanti Durga Puja begins on April 13, and will end on April 22. The Ram Navami procession in the respective localities of varios Akhara committees was supposed to be taken out on April 21. The steel city witnesses as many as 14 Basanti Durga Puja and altogether there are 175- odd Ram Navami Akhara committees including 149 licenced ones. Some of the prominent Basanti Pujas are organised at the Beldih Kalibari in Bistupur and Sakchi-based Durgabari.

East Singhbhum gets cracking with Covid tests

The East Singhbhum health authorities carried out a special Covid-19 testing drive in various urban and rural areas on Wednesday. Camps were set up in various rural blocks and urban areas for the purpose. Officials of civic bodies like Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) with incident commanders assisted the health authorities during the special drive. All visitors at Sakchi market had to undergo the RT-PCR test at the Bazar Master s office.  Similarly, visitors to other markets like Mango and Golmuri also had to undergo RT-PCR test. JNAC special officer Krishna Kumar said the special test drive was carried out  to gauge the extent of cases, which are on the rise for the last couple of weeks.

Two steel city schools shut after students test positive

Two English medium schools and the chief judicial magistrate court remained closed on Thursday after three persons including a ninth standard student tested positive for Covid-19 in the steel city on Wednesday.  The schools, both located in Kadma locality, are DBMS English School and Andhra Association School. Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) city manager, Ravi Bharti who looks after Covid control measures on behalf of the administration said authorities will seal both the schools so as to prevent the spread of the virus.  As a large number of students used to come to these schools, there is always a great chance of the virus to spread to other students. We have decided to seal these schools and are waiting for the deputation of a magistrate for the job, said Bharti to The Telegraph Online. 

Air quality monitoring in real time to debut in 3 cities | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The state urban development department is all set to start real-time monitoring of ambient air quality in three cities Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur. The project would be rolled out in the municipal areas of Ranchi and Dhanbad, and in areas under the Mango Municipal Corporation, Jugsalai Nagar Parishad and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee in the Steel City. Talking to TOI, the director of State Urban Development Authority (SUDA), Amit Kumar, said: “We have sent a proposal to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for real-time monitoring of ambient air quality. The plan includes installation of ambient air quality monitors at different locations and also steps to improve the air quality.”
