The city’s North Precinct officers were on patrol shortly before 2 a.m. when they heard several shots fired, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald. It was in the 2500 block of 13th Avenue North where they found the victim unresponsive on the side of the roadway.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office Monday identified two of the victims as: Demaio Lawrence Kirkland and Kamisha Malea Davis. Kirkland, 31, was killed at 6:43 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of 10th Street South in Bessemer. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 8 p.m. No additional details have yet been released. Then, just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, gunfire erupted in the 80 block of First Avenue North. Lt. Christian Clemons said the victims were at a large family Easter gathering when shots were fired. Police arrived to find Davis and the 22-year-old male victim wounded in the front yard. Police initially said the victims were a couple, but updated that information to say that Davis was the sister of the male’s girlfriend.

BESSEMER Authorities in Bessemer are investigating two separate shootings that left three people dead over the weekend. The first shooting took place on Saturday night in the 100 block of 10th Street South in Bessemer, leaving 31-year-old Demaio Lawrence Kirkland dead at the scene. According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Kirkland sustained a gunshot wound injury around 6:43 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. Bessemer police are investigating the case as a homicide. The second shooting took place on Sunday night in the 10 block of 1st Street North in Bessemer, leaving one man and one woman dead. The male victim has been identified as 27-year-old Kamisha Malea Davis, of Bessemer. The female victim, 22, has been identified, but her identity is being held pending notification of family members.
