Prosecutors to seek death penalty in Service Road murder

From The Trussville Tribune staff reports JEFFERSON COUNTY An Odenville man charged with capital murder in a February 2019 shooting at a business on Service Road, could be sentenced to death, if convicted. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for Walter Edward Juskiewicz, according to court documents. Juskiewicz, 34, is suspected of shooting and killing 39-year-old Arnulfo Ortega. Ortega was killed on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Ortega was going to buy a car from Juskiewicz, a co-worker, on the night of the shooting. Juskiewicz showed up and began shooting at the victims, according to investigators. Ortega was struck, but a second victim was able to escape.

Watertown man airlifted to Syracuse hospital after being run over by tractor in Clayton

CLAYTON — The owner of a Watertown paving business was injured Wednesday when a tractor ran over him while he was working on Calumet Boulevard. James Desormeau, owner of TJ Paving & Trucking, was airlifted to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, for treatment of what the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office described as presumed internal injuries. Deputies said that at about 1;45 p.m. Wednesday, they responded to a report that a person had been partially run over by a tractor at 16497 Calumet Blvd. Employees of Mr. Desormeau’s company reported that he had been pinned under the tractor while trying to start it. The tractor lurched forward, partially running over him.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was investigating a homicide after a man was found dead Wednesday. Deputies responded to a residence in the 1300 block ofCaney Road near White Hall around 9:37 p. m. , according to the sheriff's office. Stray bullet hits Jefferson County house, narrowly misses 2 girls     HIGH RIDGE, Missouri (KMOV) The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a bullet pierced the wall of a house in High Ridge and bounced off a dresser while two girls were in the room playing. The father of the girls, 11 and 13 years old, told News 4 the round came within 18-inches of hitting one of the girls in the head. According to a sheriff’s office spokesman, it appears someone was target shooting nearby and wasn’t cautious about what was behind their target in the distance. The father said the bullet came through the wall, struck a dresser and then bounced back and landed on a window sill. He said it looked like a 30 caliber round and was still warm to the touch.
