A registered Craven County sex offender has been arrested and charged with sex offenses against a Jones County child.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office learned about the crime and notified it about the man. As a result of a joint investigation between the agencies, Gregory Shirazi Sr. of 6180 U.S. 70, New Bern, was arrested. He faces charges of a felony statutory sex offense with a child under 13 and indecent liberties with a minor.
He is being held under a $2 million dollar secured bond in the Craven County Confinement Facility.
He is a registered sex offender from New Hampshire for three felony convictions of sexual assault on a victim under 13 years old.

GRAY, Ga. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a fatal accident on Eatonton Highway.
According to Sheriff Butch Reece, it happened on the section of the highway between Fortville Road and Harris Morton Road around 2:15 p.m.
Reece says a rock truck collided with another vehicle. The driver of the truck died, and the driver of the other vehicle has hand injuries.
Sheriff Butch Reece is asking drivers to avoid the area and to expect delays if you unable to find an alternate route. Right now they have one lane open.
A Jones County woman says the judge is at fault for not explaining what it means to represent herself during her 2019 trial and the North Carolina Court of Appeals agreed, allowing her a new trial possibly later this year.
Linda Elizabeth Murrell was indicted in Nov. 2017 on charges of manufacturing marijuana and maintaining a dwelling “for keeping and selling” marijuana. She was found guilty in Jones County Superior Court in July 2019.
According to court documents, the Jones County Sheriff s Office received a tip of suspected drug activity at Murrell s home, located at 3988 Wyse Fork Road. Captain Samuel French, III testified during the trial saying him and another deputy drove to a neighboring house and saw what looked to be marijuana plants growing in Murrells backyard.
