Police have arrested a man who is believed to be part of an Upington-based human trafficking syndicate and discovered that two illegal immigrants were allegedly trafficked as cheap labourers.

Clamping down on human trafficking, police have arrested a 29-year-old man who is believed to be part of a human trafficking syndicate that operates in Upington in the Northern Cape.
And in KwaZulu-Natal last week, police arrested two people on immigration-related charges and discovered that they had allegedly been trafficked from India.
In the case of the 29-year-old man, it is alleged that he trafficked young women from the Northern Cape to Johannesburg where they were forced to engage in sex work.
Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi said: It is alleged that victims were lured from Upington to Sandton and were used for prostitution. A search was conducted in an apartment at Sandton which is reported to be used as a brothel.
The suspect, a former employee of G4S, a multinational security company, allegedly stole R2.4 million from the G4S Cash Solutions depot in Westville in the Upper Highway area in 2019.
City View Mall customer tips off Durban police, three suspected robbers arrested

DURBAN - Three suspects were caught while allegedly attempting to rob a cellphone shop at City View Mall in Greyville on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the Durban Central Response Team responded to a complaint of an attempted business robbery at the City View Mall at 10.30am on Thursday.
On arrival, Gwala said, police arrested three suspects, aged between 26 and 30, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
She said it was alleged that three men entered a cellphone shop at the shopping centre where they posed as customers with a trolley. An alert customer who noticed the men acting suspiciously left the shop and called the police.
