Steps underway to tackle black fungus: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Tuesday said necessary steps are being taken to deal with black fungus and urged all to not be scared of the disease as it has not spread that much in Bangladesh.
“A few cases of black fungus have been detected in the country along with the Indian variant of Covid-19. But there’s no need to panic over the disease as it hasn’t spread that much,” the minister said while inaugurating a vaccination programme at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Pharmaceutical companies have been asked to increase the production of medicines that are used to treat black fungus infection, he said, adding that the department concerned has been instructed about the treatment of the disease.
Hafizur was also the general secretary of Mime Action, a cultural organisation of the university.
According to family sources, Hafizur returned to Dhaka from Brahmanbaria on May 15, a day after the Eid, and informed his family that he reached safely.
However, from May 15 onwards, his family found his phone switched off.
After failing to communicate with him or trace his whereabouts, they filed a general diary with Brahmanbaria s Kasba Police Station.
Later, Shahbagh police was informed about Hafizur going missing.
On Sunday, Shahbagh police informed Habibur about an unidentified body being found at the Shaheed Minar on Saturday night and that they had kept the body at the DMCH morgue.

The body of Hafizur Rahman, a student of Dhaka University who was missing for the last seven days, was found at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue today.
Hafizur s elder brother identified the body this evening. He was a student of batch 15-16 of the Department of Informatics and Library Management at DU.
He was also the general secretary of Mime Action, a cultural organisation of the university. According to family sources, Hafizur came to Dhaka from his village home in Brahmanbaria the day after Eid last Saturday.
Two people were killed and three were injured in a collision between an ambulance and a truck in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila. The deceased were, Md Humayun (40) and Faruk Hossain (35).
