(Shutterstock) AUSTIN, TX Several Austin area hospitals received top safety marks while others didn t quite measure up in The Leapfrog Group s annual spring safety grades released Thursday. The nonprofit health care watchdog group grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries and infections. More than 2,700 general, acute-care U.S. hospitals were assessed for Leapfrog s Spring Safety Grades. Among those hospitals, 27 have achieved 19 consecutive A grades in every biannual grading cycle since Leapfrog launched the safety grades in spring 2012.

2 hospitalized in Northwest Austin crash, medics say Two people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a crash involving multiple vehicles in Northwest Austin, Austin-Travis County EMS medics said. Medics responded at 6:50 a.m.to the intersection of RM 2222 and RM 620, which is east of Mansfield Dam Park.  When medics arrived, one person was trapped in a vehicle. Medics were able to free the person from the vehicle. Two others were taken to St. David s Round Rock Medical Center with potentially serious injuries, medics said.

MetroRail train collides with vehicle at crossing in North Austin By Lauren Reid (CapMetro / FOX 7 Austin) AUSTIN, Texas - Police are investigating after a MetroRail train and a vehicle got into a collision at a crossing in North Austin.  One passenger in the vehicle was transported to  St. David s Round Rock Medical Center with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. A few customers were on the train and they are being transported to their destinations, according to Cap Metro. According to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, the crash happened around 11 a.m. in the 31000 block of West Parmer Lane, near the Mopac Expressway.
