Man arrested for pointing gun, miming shooting two APD officers

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department says it has made an arrest in an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against two Austin police officers.
On Sunday, April 25, 2021, at approximately 5:23 p.m., APD says two uniformed officers were flagged down regarding an unrelated disturbance on a Capital Metro bus at 1717 S. Pleasant Valley Rd in Southeast Austin.
APD says through investigative methods, the suspect was identified as Zion Baptiste.
While the two uniformed officers were detaining the unrelated suspect with their backs to the parking lot, an un-involved individual in a two-door black coupe pulled up to the shopping center’s exit at 1717 S. Pleasant Valley Rd. and stopped.

At their April 20 work session, the members of the Austin City Council certainly sounded thankful for the recommendations the City-Community Reimagining Public Safety Task Force had just laid at their feet. It s imperative that we see the city manager s office, staff, council, and the city as a whole make a public commitment, said Monica Guzmán of Go Austin/Vamos Austin.
An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday and is accused of fatally shooting a teen over the weekend in North Austin, according to Austin police.
Austin police on Sunday afternoon were notified of a person who had been shot in the parking lot of a mobile home park located just north of the intersection of U.S. 183 and Lamar Boulevard, according to authorities.
Officers who responded to the call found Juan Carlos Cruz, and despite life saving measures made by Austin-Travis County medics, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:50 p.m. later that same day, police said.
Police said people who saw the shooting reported that Gregorio Vences-Benitez left the scene of the crime before officers arrived. On Tuesday, Vences-Benitez was arrested by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force, and is facing a first-degree murder charge, police said, adding that his bail is $500,000.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force has arrested a suspect on first-degree murder charges following a shooting in Southeast Austin Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, April 6, at approximately 12:26 a.m., Austin 911 says it received a call about a male subject that had been shot in the parking lot of the apartment complex located at 7330 Bluff Springs Rd.
Austin-Travis County EMS and APD officers arrived on the scene. Despite life savings efforts, police say the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 12:49 a.m.
