Over 4,000 pro-democracy protesters gathering in support of Alexi Navalny, a vocal Kremlin critic, have been detained by Russian police since the beginning of last weekend, according to local media and pro-democracy organizations.
The arrests have occurred across the country, from European cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg to far-eastern cities like Vladivostok, according to Russian monitoring groups, BBC reported.
Large-scale protests began in Russia last weekend following Navalny’s arrest. He was arrested on Jan. 17 upon returning to Russia from Germany, where he had been recovering from a near-fatal poisoning from a deadly nerve agent, which he has said was done at the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Although Joe Biden promised way back in 2019 that his son Hunter would offload his stake in Bohai Harvest RST (BHR), a Chinese Communist Party-controlled venture capital firm, it appears that Hunter still holds that interest today – a major national security risk now that the elder Biden has been inaugurated as President of the United States.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reports that as of Wednesday, January 27, Chinese business records still reflected Skaneateles, LLC, solely owned and controlled by Hunter Biden, holds a 10 percent stake in BHR. As BHR controls approximately $2.1 billion in assets, Hunter’s shares are worth, well, quite a bit of money.

“More than doubling the federal minimum wage is one of the policies that would threaten the fragile small business economic recovery,” said National Federation of Independent Business Vice President of Federal Government Relations Kevin Kuhlman.
The $15 minimum wage would result in 1.3 million workers losing their jobs, a 2019 Congressional Budget Office report estimated.

A British man was arrested and charged for allegedly mailing a suspicious package to a coronavirus vaccine production plant in Wales, U.K., forcing an evacuation of the facility.
Anthony Collins, 53, is accused of sending a package that was intended to appear like an explosive, but wasn’t actually explosive, to a U.K. plant manufacturing the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, according to The Associated Press. Collins was arrested Thursday, the same day the plant received the package and was forced to evacuate, police said.
“[Collins] has since been charged with dispatching an article by post with the intention of inducing the belief it is likely to explode or ignite,” Kent, U.K. police said in a statement Saturday.
Al Hol is the largest refugee camp in Syria with around 62,000 occupants, the AP reported. Over 80% of the people there are women and children who escaped to the camp after ISIS lost their last stronghold in the country in 2019.
Several countries, including Russia and Kazakhstan, have already repatriated around 1,000 children and their family members, Voronkov said, the AP reported. A U.N. official added that children under the age of 14 should be approached as victims and not detained or prosecuted.
“Every effort should be made to ensure children are not kept in institutions but allowed to reintegrate with family members within their communities,” Voronkov said, the AP reported.
