Nelson sentenced for role in storage unit thefts Nancy Molnar NEW PHILADELPHIA A 34-year-old woman from the Bolivar area has been ordered to successfully complete a residential corrections program for her role in a string of thefts from storage units. Jamie S. Nelson is to complete the program at Stark Regional Community Correction Center in Louisville under terms of a sentence given Tuesday by Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos. The requirement is a condition of two years probation ordered by Thomakos. The probation is to be served in place of a two-year prison sentence, which the judge reserved for imposition if probation terms are not met. 

Southeast Ohio man sideswipes SUV, causes crash with deputy s cruiser

Nancy Molnar Times-Reporter staff writer Dover NEWCOMERSTOWN A man from Southeast Ohio who reportedly caused two crashes on U.S. Route 36 Friday evening is facing possible felony charges for failure to comply with a signal of a peace officer, resisting arrest and assault. He is also to be charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving with a suspended license and several other traffic violations. The second crash damaged a Tuscarawas County Sheriff s Office cruiser. The first damaged a sport-utility vehicle driven by a Uhrichsville woman. Sgt. Phil Valdez of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff s Office started following the 51-year-old motorist from Vincent, Ohio, after being told about a possible drunk driver at the Tony Mart in Port Washington, according to a report.

Jamie S Nelson pleads guilty in four storage unit theft cases

NEW PHILADELPHIA A 34-year-old woman from the Bolivar area has admitted to her role in a string of thefts from storage units. Jamie S. Nelson, entered guilty pleas in four cases on Tuesday before Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos. The judge then found her guilty of theft, receiving stolen property, breaking and entering, and aggravated drug possession. In exchange for her plea, assistant county prosecutor Robert Urban recommended that she receive a two-year prison sentence, to be reserved in favor of completion of a program at a community-based correctional program such as the Stark Regional Community Correction Center in Louisville. The recommendation included two years probation and an order to pay a total of $2,456 in restitution to four victims. 

Dover man, 29, overturns car onto exposed I-77 bridge beams in Bolivar

BOLIVAR A 29-year-old Dover man suffered incapacitating injuries when his car overturned onto the exposed beams of a bridge in a construction zone above state Route 212 NE early Tuesday, according to Lt. Laura Taylor, commander of the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. She said the Chevrolet Malibu was northbound in a southbound lane at a spot in the construction zone where the lanes split. The car went off the right side of the road and hit rebar, which caused it to overturn onto exposed bridge beams. He was kind of hanging upside down with 212 30 feet below, Taylor said. He was attempting to get out of the car. The officer was trying to keep him from possibly falling onto 212 30 feet below.
