TAXILA: Five people drowned and two others went missing in Indus River in separate incidents in Attock, police and Rescue 1122 sources said.
In the first incident, two brothers, Adil and Suleman, residents of Haji Shah village, had gone to Attock Khurd for picnicking. While bathing in Indus River, they lost their balance and went missing in the waters. Till the filing of this report, they had not been found and were presumed dead.
Two brothers drown near Ghazi
HARIPUR: Two brothers drowned in the Indus River near Ghazi, police said here on Friday.
Ghazi police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that two teenage boys were bathing in the Indus river near Khalo village in Ghazi tehsil when one of them slipped into deep water and drowned.
His younger brother in a bid to rescue him also drowned. The villagers rescued both the teenagers and shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Ghazi where one of them, Talha, 17, was pronounced as brought dead while his brother Khizar, 15, was admitted for treatment. His condition was out of danger, doctors and police said.
MANSEHRA/LOWER DIR: Two couples were killed in Mansehra and Lower Dir, the police said on Friday.
SHO Saddar police station Rabbawaz said a newlywed couple was strung up in a tree on Thursday by the woman’s family in Batrair area on the outskirts of Mansehra city for marrying of their free will on July 17.
He said the police had arrested three of the six accused, who invited the couple to the area from Islamabad and hanged them from a tree after severe torture.
A complainant lodged an FIR with the police, insisting that the father of his daughter-in-law trapped the couple by promising to ‘pardon’ them over court marriage through a jirga.

HARIPUR: A woman and her mother were shot dead while an infant boy injured when a man opened fire on his family members over unknown reasons in the Bilal Town in Ghazi area on Saturday.
An eight-year-old son of the accused escaped unhurt as he had hidden in a washroom, and later accused his father of murdering his mother, maternal grandmother, and also causing a bullet wound to his two-month-old brother.
Police in Ghazi area quoted Abdullah Khan, 8, a resident village Gandaf as saying that his father Muhammad Asif Khan had an altercation with his mother Uzma Bibi over some unknown reasons and the short-tempered man, opened fire with a pistol, injuring her seriously.
