Cop martyred, two attackers killed in Lakki shootout

LAKKI MARWAT: A cop was martyred while two unidentified attackers were killed in an exchange of fire on the Indus Highway, official sources said on Sunday.
They said that a police party of Dadiwala Police Station headed by Probationer Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Shah was patrolling the Indus Highway when two motorcyclists opened fire on the police van. The cops retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time.
In the exchange of fire, the sources said, Probationer Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Shah was martyred while Constable Anwarullah sustained injuries. The attackers identified as Shan, hailing from North Waziristan tribal district and Zar Muhammad, a resident of Domail Tehsil in Bannu, were also killed in the shootout.

PESHAWAR: The coronavirus on Friday claimed 25 more lives, including a doctor as 630 tested positive for the viral infection in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Dr Syed Ali Akbar, senior medical officer, Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, Matta subdivision in Swat district, became the latest victim of the infection in the province. With his loss, the number of doctors dying of coronavirus reached 66.
Dr Syed Ali Akbar had tested positive for the viral infection a few weeks ago and was taken to Islamabad where he was admitted to an expensive private hospital but lost life there. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard after funeral prayer in his native village.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department on Thursday initiated an inquiry against the former district health officer (DHO) Mardan Dr Kachkol Khan and his team for allegedly selling the Covid-19 vaccine and injecting distilled water into the elderly people who came for vaccination.
People had lodged complaints on the Prime Minister’s Citizen Portal and also informed Dr Faisal Sultan, advisor to the prime minister on health, about the mismanagement in use of the coronavirus vaccine and its alleged sale to irrelevant people in Mardan.
Dr Faisal Sultan had directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for conducting an inquiry into the complaints and also recommended disciplinary action against the DHO.

TAXILA: Eleven passengers were killed and 35 others injured on Monday when a Mardan-bound bus carrying people looking forward to celebrating Eid in their hometowns and villages plunged into a ditch on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway near Burhan interchange.
A woman and an infant were among the dead. Most of the dead hailed from Mardan and Swabi districts.
According to motorway police, the bus coming from Lahore veered off the road when the driver lost control during an attempt to overtake a car.
