Mohib: Ready to control situation after foreign troops exit

24 Apr 2021 - 17:53 KABUL (Pajhwok): National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib on Saturday the government was ready to deal with any difficult situation arising from withdrawal of foreign forces and the Taliban could not come to power by force. Mohib made these remarks at a joint press conference with the director of Nation Directorate of Security, interior and acting defense ministers. He said the Taliban were not committed to peace and hey have once again showed the people of Afghanistan that they prefer war to peace by declining to attend a scheduled conference in Turkey on the Afghan peace process. A UN-sponsored meeting on peace in Afghanistan was scheduled to take place in Turkey on April 24 with representatives of the Afghan side, politicians and some countries, but the huddle was postponed due to the Taliban’s absence.

NSA says release of Taliban prisoners would be conditional

(Last Updated On: April 24, 2021) Afghanistan’s National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib said Saturday that the government would release 7,000 Taliban prisoners, demanded by the group as part of the Doha deal, only if the group significantly reduces violence. Addressing a press conference, Mohib urged the Taliban not to demand the release of drug traffickers. “When it comes to releasing of prisoners, the Taliban should prove that the people [to be freed] are not smugglers,” Mohib said. Mohib’s statement comes just days after First Vice President Amrullah Saleh said at a public gathering in Parwan province that “no further release [of prisoners] is going to happen.”

Taliban Explains Their Perception of an Islamic System At a time of growing concerns over the future of the nascent democracy in Afghanistan in a potential peace agreement with the Taliban, the group on Friday in a statement explained their perception of an Islamic political system, emphasizing the need for the implementation of Islamic laws and jurisprudence.  Taliban in its statement said that only the restoration of a true Islamic system can ensure a prosperous and successful future for Afghanistan.   The statement reveals that the Taliban wants a system in which “a murderer is subjected to Qisas (retaliation in kind), a fornicator is subjected to Hadd (punishments that are mandated and fixed by God), a thief is punished, an oppressor’s hand is restrained from oppression, the oppressed are granted relief from injustice, one who accepts bribery is punished and the public treasury is kept safe from evildoers.”
