PSB almost botched Pakistan’s participation in Tokyo Olympics

KARACHI: The country’s entire contingent’s participation in the Olympics was at stake due to Pakistan Sports Board’s (PSB) non-compliance to the Olympics Activity Plan.
An investigation by ‘The News’ has revealed how PSB had almost botched Pakistan’s participation in the Tokyo Olympics.
Mari Iwama of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games emailed the activity plan to the National Olympic Committee of Pakistan on May 26.
“As we have explained on several occasions, we are pleased to announce the details of the Activity Plan. Please find the attached Activity Plan which will be required for those who are entering Japan from 1 July 2021.

KARACHI: Pakistanâs Tokyo-bound shooters faced a setback when the ISSF World Cup scheduled in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 21 to July 2 was cancelled.
This was the only event for them before the Olympics.
The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) on Monday announced: âWe are forced to inform you that ISSF World Cup Baku 2021 will not take place [due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic and surge in the growth of the number of people infected in the territory of Azerbaijan].â
It is to be noted that Gulfam Joseph, Khalil Akhtar, and Ghulam Mustafa Bashir have not participated in any international event since December 2019.
Four Pak shooters get IOC scholarships

The shooters are Ghulam Mustafa Bashir, Khalil Akhtar, Gulfam Joseph, and Usman Chand.
“We have arranged this scholarship for them and it happened after 20 years,” said Executive vice president of National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) Javaid S Lodhi while talking to ‘The News’.
He added that under this scholarship each athlete gets a monthly stipend of $750 which is used on his development, training, and participation in international events.
Before this, he added, Ghulam Mustafa Bashir and Minhal Suhail got Olympic scholarships for Rio 2016 in 25-metre rapid fire pistol and 10-metre air rifle categories, respectively.
