Farmers gain improved access to small business support as PPP reopens

Farmers who run their operations as sole proprietors, independent contractors, or otherwise self-employed individuals will have newly expanded access to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) under changes made in the COVID stimulus package Congress approved.  Producers who were denied PPP loans or whose loan amounts did not consider self-employment compensation may now be eligible for the vital federal small business support. Eligibility information and more details can be found here. Those wanting to apply for a PPP loan should contact lenders directly for more information on when PPP will be open for that specific lender. “NMPF is pleased that many of our dairy farmers will have fewer restrictions and limitations on the PPP support available to them as the program reopens this week,” said Jim Mulhern, National Milk Producers Federation’s president and CEO. “We have been grateful for the support already extended to dairy through PPP, and we deeply appreciate the improved

Perdue demurs at cabinet sideline of Trump

By 1/8/2021 While the top Democrats in Congress threatened to impeach President Trump for the second time, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said on Thursday that he was not part of any discussions among cabinet members to sideline Trump by declaring him unfit to do his job. “Nor do I expect to have any” part in such talk, said Perdue during a trip to Georgia. A pro-Trump mob numbering in the hundreds broke into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, shortly after Trump told a rally that he would never concede his loss to President-elect Joe Biden, and interrupted the counting of Electoral College votes that confirmed the Democrat’s victory. Police shot and killed one rioter. Members of the attempted insurrection carried Confederate flags and vandalized parts of the building.

Dairy trade s efforts build prosperity

Dairy trade’s efforts build prosperity More than 70 years ago, Robert and Dottie Jacquier started Laurelbrook Farm with just 18 cows and nothing to their name. This March, their grandson, Jim known as “Cricket” testified before a House Committee on Agriculture hearing on behalf of the National Milk Producers Federation and shared how dairy exports helped his family’s farm grow and thrive across four generations. “The opportunities for the next generation would not have been possible without the market opportunities created by trade agreements that support dairy exports,” Cricket told Congress. Trade wins overseas deliver tangible benefits for America’s dairy farmers and rural communities here at home. That is why we in dairy invest in dismantling tariff and nontariff barriers and expanding market access.
