Overnight snowfall downed some tree limbs and caused hundreds of power outages in Holmes, Richland, Ashland and Summit counties this morning, but meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Cleveland said it s all about to melt as temperatures rise into the 40s during the day. This is just a system that happened to come in at the right time and have enough cold air to give us snow, said Mike Griffin, meteorologist. But once we get some sun up through the clouds this all will go away this afternoon. If this (weather system) happened during the day today, we wouldn t have any accumulation on the ground because of the high sun angle. The sun would be coming through the clouds and eating away at the accumulation of snowfall.
The same can t be said for our friends to the north.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland said accumulations of 3 to 5 inches could occur in just several hours, generally along and west of the I-71 corridor and northeast along the lakeshore of northern Ohio and toward Erie, Pennsylvania.
Cleveland, Toledo and Mansfield could get up to 4 inches of snow and the Akron, Canton and Youngstown areas could get up to 2 inches.
The large system is impacting a good stretch of the U.S. and is currently in the central plains and headed across the Midwest. Eventually, it will dump snow in New England, as well.
