U.AE gets 20 million visits in 2020 DUBAI, February 16, 2021 The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that U.AE was visited nearly 20 million times in 2020, compared to 13.5 million in 2019. Last year, the number of U.AE users was 12.2 million against 8 million in 2019. These results reflect the importance of U.AE as a digital platform to access information and government services, and in part, demonstrate the considerable efforts of the U.AE team at the level of TRA and other government entities in content and service development. It also reflects the public’s trust in U.AE as a reliable source of information concerning all government services, as well as economic, social and educational aspects of the UAE. AWS completes case study on BNET s smooth cloud adoption MANAMA, February 14, 2021 Amazon Web Services, a global provider of cloud services, said it has completed a case study on the successful cloud adoption of Bahrain’s National Broadband Network (BNET).   The AWS case study follows BNET’s journey as it prepared to separate its digital and data infrastructure from its parent company Batelco by migrating business-critical and historical data into new applications within a new information technology environment.    The broadband network responsible for design, construction and operation of Bahrain’s fibre infrastructure, BNET was launched in 2019 and played a crucial part in the implementation of the fourth National Telecommunication Plan (NTP4). 

Tanzania: Airtel upgrades its 4G network

(Ecofin Agency) - Mobile operator Airtel Tanzania announced the successful upgrade of its 4G telecom network across the country. This investment, which allowed the company to initiate the Supa 4G project, now enables it to offer the population much better quality services on the 700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequency bands. Consumers now have access to Internet speeds above 40 Mbps. On Tuesday, February 9 in Dar es Salaam, Beatrice Singano, Airtel Tanzania s director of communications, said that with the improved 4G network, the company has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing efficient mobile data and voice services to the people. She also noted that more than 500 cities in Tanzania are already covered by the enhanced network, representing several million people.

UAE Innovates 2021 Awards launched to honour innovations in combating COVID-19

Dubai: The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) on Thursday launched the ‘UAE Innovates 2021 Awards’ to promote and implement innovative ideas that contribute towards UAE’s efforts in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made during a virtual press conference attended by more than 100 representatives from executive councils and federal entities. The awarding will be held on February 25 at Expo 2020 Dubai. Huda Al Hashimi, Chief of Innovation and Government Strategy, reaffirmed the UAE government’s keenness in adopting innovation across various sectors in building a better future. She said: “The pandemic has shown us how important it is to innovate and to design new solutions for any future challenges that may arise. Governments that embrace innovation and agility as main drivers are better able to respond and cope with global challenges.”
