Union Health Secy advises States, UTs to increase COVID-19 vaccine coverage percentage
New Delhi : Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Thursday advised states and union territories to increase the percentage coverage of COVID-19 vaccine beneficiaries and optimize sessions per day.
According to a statement, the Health Secretary, while reviewing the status of vaccination with Health Secretaries and National Health Mission MDs through video conference, pointed out that the COVID-19 vaccine is available in sufficient quantity and technical glitches on the CoWIN app have now been resolved.
“While some States and UTs have more than 50 per cent coverage, they were all advised to improve the percentage coverage of vaccinated beneficiaries as there are many States and UTs that need to improve their performance on this parameter,” the statement said.

The vaccine is being developed in partnership with American vaccine developer Novavax.

The Serum Institute of India, the world s largest vaccine manufacturer, is expecting to launch another COVID-19 vaccine called Covovax by June, the company s CEO Adar Poonawalla said on Saturday.
The vaccine is being developed in partnership with American vaccine developer Novavax. The firm s vaccine jab was found to be 89.3 percent effective in a UK trial.
SII has applied for local trials for the vaccine candidate in India.

Active cases in India continued to decline at a time when authorities are struggling to assure health workers and citizens of the vaccinationâs safety.
The country reported 18,855 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministryâs data as of 8 a.m. on Friday. Thatâs lower than the 20,746 patients who recovered from the virus in the same time period, taking active cases below 1.72 lakh. India had over 10 lakh live infections in mid-September.
However, todayâs fresh cases are the highest reported since Jan. 7.
