Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors 72-year old Army Veteran John Earl. John was at home when a man ran through his back yard. Naturally, John asked why he was running and the stranger pushed him away. So John, tackled the suspect, hogtied him and then called the sheriff’s office. turns out the man was wanted as part of a man hunt by local authorities. John said it wasn’t a matter of being fearless it was a matter of doing the right thing. John said, “”I haven’t been pumped up like that in a long time. It felt good but it felt good when the officers came and put the cuffs on him and took him out.” Thank you John for your bravery and THANK YOU for your service.

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Korean War Veteran, retired Colonel Ralph Puckett Jr. When Ralph was a 1st Lieutenant, he distinguished himself by acts of gallantry above and beyond the call of duty, while serving as the Commander, 8th U.S. Army Ranger Company during the period of November 25, and 26, 1950, in Korea. He served as courageous example and showed extraordinary leadership in battle during a daylight attack on an enemy hill, as he intentionally ran across an open area three times to draw enemy fire. This allowed the Army Rangers to locate and destroy the enemy positions and seize the hill. This is all according to a statement from the White House where Ralph was yesterday, along side President Biden and President Moon Jae-In of South Korea, as he received the Medal of Honor. Congratulations Ralph and THANK YOU for your service.
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Veteran Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Bob Kroener. With graduation ceremonies back on track this year, waiting a year to walk the stage seemed forever. It’s nothing compared to what Bob went through. In 1971 Bob missed that moment of pomp and circumstance because of his deployment to Vietnam. The other day he was thumbing through a USC magazine and remembered he never had that moment. So, after doing some digging for his records, school officials confirmed he was supposed to walk across the stage and plans were in place to do it in 2020….THEN, the pandemic hit. Well, this year it’s finally happening for Bob. Congratulation Bob, enjoy that moment and THANK YOU for your service.

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Flying Tiger Line flight 739. On March 16, 1962, Flying Tiger Line Flight 739 was on a secret mission, but disappeared. On board were 93 United States Army soldiers and 11 civilian crew members. Very little is known about what happened to the plane and its passengers, and due to the circumstance surrounding this mission, the names of those lost have not yet been added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. However, today many families and loved ones of these heroes gathered in Columbia Falls, Maine, where national nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) is based, to be present for the unveiling of a new monument dedicated to their service and sacrifice.
