A dozen new cash benefit schemes with an estimated budget of more than Rs 6,000 crore are rolled out by the state government targeting 90 lakh beneficiaries.

In poll-bound Assam, the ruling BJP has implemented various direct and indirect cash benefit schemes targeting different sections of the people in the last couple of months. As announced in the last State budget, the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government is seemingly in a hurry to implement all the flagship reward schemes in no time.

GUWAHATI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved grant-in-aid of Rs. 100 crore to the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizers Corporation Limited (BVFCL) at Namrup, Dibrugarh. The cabinet meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi accorded approval to the proposal on Wednesday, stated a release.

Chandra Mohan Patowary said, Union Cabinet has approved grant-in-aid of Rs. 100 crore to BVFCL, Namrup for urgent repairs and maintenance of Unit II and Unit III. The Minister further hoped that the aid will enable BVFCL to sustain operations of its urea manufacturing units.

In a good news for 7.47 lakh tea garden workers in Assam, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday disbursed Rs 3,000 to each of the 7.47 lakh tea garden workers in the state. The total allocation by Modi government under this scheme is Rs 224 crore. Addressing a programme, Sitharaman said that before 2014 Lok Sabha general election, PM Modi had wished to work for the upliftment of tea garden workers and this is the reason why several schemes were launched after the NDA came to power.
