+ Chief Technical Advisor of the University of Ghana School of Law’s Democratic Vigilance Project, Oliver Barker-Vormawor says the submission and purported acceptance of Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah’s resignation letter by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin is constitutionally incorrect. According to him, “Per the Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament, the power to appoint Members to a Committee vests exclusively, in the full House, acting on the recommendation of the Committee of Selection,” thus, the authority is also vested in the House to either accept or reject the resignation of Mr. Ablakwah. His comments come on the back of the sudden resignation of Sam Okudzeto Ablakwah from Parliament’s Appointment Committee citing “personal” reasons.
