Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu reads 2021 budget today

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Speaker of ParliamentAlban Bagbin on Thursday evening confirmed that Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame will present the budget statement of the government of Ghana for 2021. The presentation of the budget is normally done by the Finance Minister on the authority of the President. This year, however, the shift had become necessary because of the absence of the Finance Minister Designate, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta out of the country. Mr Ofori-Atta is receiving treatment overseas from COVID-19 health issues. Mr Ofori-Atta held the same finance portfolio in the first term of the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government that ran from January 7, 2017, to January 6, 2021.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu appointed caretaker-Minister for Finance

President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as the caretaker-Minister for Finance. The appointment was communicated in a letter from President Akufo-Addo to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. President Akufo-Addo indicated that the Suame legislator, who is currently the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, will handle the Finance Ministry as a temporary additional responsibility. This comes at a time when the Minister-designate for the sector, Ken Ofori-Atta remains in the United States on medical leave over Covid-19 complications, according to the government. “I write respectfully to inform you that, pursuant to Order 140 Rules 2 and 3, of the Standing Orders of Parliament, I have assigned temporarily responsibility for the Ministry of Finance to the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Member of Parliament for Suame,” the letter, as read by Alban Bagbin said.
