A homeowner was outside in her backyard when she smelled smoke around 5 p.m., March 12. She went to the front of her house and saw flames shooting out her picture window in the 600 block of Napoleon Road, Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety Director Mike Jester said. The first firefighters on scene found flames and heavy smoke coming from the first and second floor, Jester said. The homeowner lived alone and no one else was inside the house at the time of the fire, Jester said. The house is a complete loss.

The fire started before 3:35 p.m., March 13 in the 4900 block of Fishville Road, fire Chief Greg Jones said. It also destroyed the family’s camper and pickup and all their personal belongings, he said. The family was living in the camper while they were between houses, Jones said. They were not home at the time of the fire, he said. Embers from a fire pit likely blew, catching the grass under the camper on fire, Jones said. The fire also burned the nearby wooded area, destroying about four acres, he said.

The Summit Township Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Woodland Avenue at 3:33 a.m., March 5, Capt. Scott Stoker said. A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy on another call saw the fire and reported it, he said. Flames were coming out the east side of the one-story house when crews arrived on scene, Stoker said. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured during the three and a half hours crews were on scene, Stoker said.

Police seek answers after ice fishing gear found near open hole goes unclaimed, no missing person reported Updated Jan 11, 2021; Facebook Share JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Police are trying to determine if someone fell through the ice while fishing on a Napoleon Township lake on Saturday. Ice fishing gear was seen around a hole in Little Wolf Lake Saturday morning, and a citizen called the Napoleon Township Police thinking it was odd, Chief Duaine Pittman said. At around 11:30 a.m., Jan. 9, the hole had partially refrozen, and it looked like someone may have fallen through the ice and then scrambled out of the lake located in the northeast corner of the township, Pittman said.
