Ogun needs agro-cargo not passenger airport, Gov Abiodun tells NASS -

 By James Ogunnaike Ogun State government is to continue with the plan to construct an agro-cargo airport in the state. This was disclosed by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, when he received the Senate Committee on Aviation, led by Senator Smart Adeyemi, at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan , Abeokuta. The governor said that the agro-cargo airport project, conceptualized by the Gbenga Daniel administration in 2007, has lots of potentials in the overall development of the state in particular and the country in general.   It would be recalled that the immediate past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun jettisoned the idea of a cargo airport and opted for a passenger airport in 2018, with its proposed location in Wasimi in Ewekoro local government area of the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has said an airport cannot be sited at Wasinmi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. The Governor mentioned that Wasinmi has the largest cement factories in the country, saying that the cement “factories are emitting dust particles and pollutants into the sky.” Abiodun explained that his government would resume the construction of an agro-cargo airport abandoned by Former Governor Gbenga Daniel at Ilishan Remo in 2007, ignoring the one he claimed was initiated by his predecessor, Ibikunle Amosun, in Wasinmi. Abiodun said what the state needed at this time is an agro-cargo airport and not a passenger airport.

The Dean of Faculty of Technology at the University of Ibadan, Professor Olaosebikan Fakolujo has urged the present political leaders to move Nigeria from a consuming nation to a producing one. Fakolujo insisted that Nigeria must desist from being a consuming nation, catalyse rapid industrialisation by leveraging and investing in technology. He made the call at the induction of 293 graduates for the 2018/2019 academic session of the Faculty on Thursday. The graduates were also inducted as graduate members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Fakolujo while speaking during the induction, urged President Muhamadu Buhari and other stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria ceases to be a consumer of finished goods from overseas.
