Nungesser cites upcoming projects to increase tourism in northeast Louisiana View Comments The tourism industry in Louisiana was hard hit by the COVID-19 shutdown, but Discover Monroe-West Monroe CEO and President Alana Cooper and Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser see light at the end of the tunnel. On Friday, Nungesser was the guest speaker at the Discover Monroe-West Monroe Tourism Industry Luncheon at Bayou Pointe on the campus of the University of Louisiana Monroe.  At the luncheon, several individuals and groups were recognized for their contributions to the local tourism industry. “Through this difficult year for the tourism industry, this event offered an opportunity to recognize those that have shown strong leadership and set an example for others. We are pleased to honor these award recipients and recognize their dedication and efforts in the Monroe-West Monroe tourism industry,” Cooper said in a news release.

Planning and Urban Studies Professor Marla Nelson Selected For Urban Affairs Association s 2021 Honor Roll

University of New Orleans planning and urban studies professor Marla Nelson has been selected as a 2021 inductee into the Urban Affairs Association Honor Roll. Nelson is one of 16 people to receive the award, which recognizes the association’s most impactful service leaders. The Urban Affairs Association (UAA) is the international professional organization for urban scholars, researchers and public/nonprofit service providers. The association is dedicated to creating interdisciplinary spaces for engaging in intellectual and practical discussions about urban life. Nelson, who coordinates the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program at UNO, has published widely on the impacts of and responses to industrial and occupational restructuring in U.S. cities and regions, human capital and interregional migration, and post-disaster recovery and redevelopment.
