When Somerset Patriots pitcher Shawn Semple was a South Jersey kid from Voorhees, the Phillies were his team. He was 13 when they won the World Series in 2008 and one of his favorite players was their amazing left-hander who was winning games into his mid-to-late-40s throwing 82-mph fastballs.
“I watched Jamie Moyer for years, and that dude did it,” the Yankees farmhand said Wednesday night after his standout season debut, a four-shutout-innings start in the Patriots’ 3-1 home victory over the Harrisburg Senators.

Both Gary Carter Jr. and Rodney Lyons announced Wednesday that they will be seeking to fill the position vacated by Troy Carter, who was recently elected to the 2nd Congressional District seat. Carter Jr. posted a picture on his Instagram of him filing for the Senate seat Wednesday. Carter Jr. is currently the state representative of District 102, which encompasses all of Algiers in New Orleans. He was elected to the position in 2015 and is a graduate of Archbishop Shaw High School.According to the secretary of state s website, Lyons, who represents District 87, also qualified. Lyons district encompasses Jefferson Parish. He was elected in 2015 and is a graduate of the University of New Orleans and Delgado Community College.Both Lyons and Carter Jr. are Democrats.
