N M preps could add shot clocks in 2022-23

The National Federation of State High School Associations on Tuesday of this week announced that states can implement a 35-second shot clock in basketball starting in the 2022-23 season – if they so desire. So what will New Mexico do? The process of answering that question hasn’t really begun yet. New Mexico Activities Association executive director Sally Marquez said the first thing her office must do is take the temperature of the approximately 155 basketball-playing schools around the state, and get feedback – from coaches, athletic directors and administrators – on what they’d like. ......................    Associated Press New Mexico is now administering the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 to children ages 12 to 15, as state health officials pushed Thursday for more people to get vaccinated. The move by the state Health Department follows authorizations this week by the federal Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state is encouraging families to register children on its vaccine website. The expanded availability applies only to the Pfizer vaccine, which until now was only available to people ages 16 and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for people 18 and older. State officials say more than half of eligible residents are now considered fully vaccinated.

Native American CEAH scholarship winners announced

Native American CEAH scholarship winners announced May 14, 2021 The recently established Center for Environmental Arts and Humanities at The University of New Mexico announced its inaugural awardees of the undergraduate Native American Environmental Arts and Humanities Scholarship. This interdisciplinary scholarship is awarded to Native American students at UNM who have demonstrated excellence during their undergraduate tenure and who are interested in art and ecology, social justice, environmental justice, and/or species conservation.  Awardees for this year’s scholarship come from colleges across UNM, majoring in Native American Studies, Political Science, Population Health, Journalism and Mass Communication, Psychology, and Business. Joshua Mike-Bidtah is a Diné student in his senior year in the College of Fine Arts, working toward a major in the Film and Digital Media Arts Program with a minor in Animation.
