DHAKA, May 10, 2021 (BSS) – A court here today sent former joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam and general secretary of its Dhaka city unit Mamunul Haque to jail in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over the organization’s mayhem in Baitul Mukarram area in March.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesi passed the order as police produced Mamunul before the court after end of his two-day remand in the case (57 (3) 21) and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the conclusion of the probe in the case.
On May 4, a court here placed Mamunul Haque on a total of five-day remand in two separate cases [60 (3) 21] and [57 (3) 21] lodged over the group’s mayhem in the capital.

Two Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were sent to jail today after they were produced before a Dhaka court in a case filed with Paltan Police Station.
They are Maulana Jubair Ahmed, Dhaka City unit vice-president of Hefajat s now dissolved committee, and Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed, its assistant general secretary.
Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yeasmin Ara passed the order after Sub-Inspector Md Enamul Haque of Paltan Police Station and also the investigator of the case, produced them before the court on completion of their three-day remand in the case.
In today s forwarding report, the IO said the two leaders while on remand gave important information and as such the IO appealed to the court to confine them in jail until the investigation is completed.

A rape case has been filed against Jakaria Noman Fayezi, publicity secretary of the recently dissolved Hefajat-e-Islam central committee, in Chattogram, said police.
A woman filed the case with Hathazari Police Station early yesterday, confirmed Abdullah Al Masum, additional superintendent of Chattogram police.
According to the case statement, the plaintiff became acquainted with Fayezi through social media in September of 2019.
In November, the same year, she came to Hathazari upazila where Fayezi rented a house for her to stay, the police officer said, quoting the case statement. Fayezi raped the victim many times over the next year, the statement added.

Two Hefajat leaders were placed on different terms of remand today in two separate cases filed with Motijheel and Paltan police stations over the 2013 mayhem in the capital s Shapla Chatter and Paltan areas.
The leaders are former Assistant Organising Secretary of Hefajat Mufti Shakhawat Hossain Razi and former Assistant Secretary General Maulana Monzurul Islam Afendi.
Both Shakhawat and Monzurul were placed on three-day remand each, in a case filed by Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem.
Meanwhile, Shakhawat was also placed on a three-day remand in another case filed with Motijheel Police Station over the same offence.

Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder placed Mamunul on a five-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the recent violence in Dhaka centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 26 after two investigators produced him before the court with a 17-day remand prayer.
