This is a round-up of Covid-19 related matters in Malaysia and globally from May 1 up to noon today. In Malaysia, case numbers have exceeded 420,000 and globally, the virus has infected more than 156 million people and caused over 3.2 million deaths. More than 216 countries and territories are affected by the pandemic.
KUALA LUMPUR: The sharp rise in daily new cases over the past few weeks has once again placed Malaysia in a critical situation in its fight to contain the transmission of Covid-19.
As of yesterday, active cases had shot up to 33,762 while the nation’s cumulative caseload stood at 427,927.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 Continuous buying support in selected healthcare, industrial products and services counters pushed Bursa Malaysia to end the week on a positive note, with its benchmark index rising 0.58 per cent.
At 5pm, the benchmark index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) improved 9.12 points to 1,587.45 from yesterday’s close of 1,578.33.
The index opened 0.34 of-a-point higher at 1,578.67, and moved between 1,573.40 and 1,590.04 throughout the day.

Selangor had 32% of the country s new cases, after reporting 1,137 more infections. Of Selangor s total, 74.1% (842 cases) have been uncovered from clusters and contact tracing activities, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (

Kuala Lumpur has 477 new cases, which is the second highest figure out of all states.
As of Thursday, Malaysia s cumulative Covid-19 infections is at 427,927 after the country registered 3,551 more cases for the day.
Another 19 people in the country died of Covid-19, taking Malaysia s death toll to 1,610.
Dr Noor Hisham said the deaths involved those aged to 31 and 92. There are 19 deaths in the country, which were reported in Sarawak (five), Johor (three), Selangor (three), Kelantan (two), Kuala Lumpur (two), Kedah (one), Negri Sembilan (one), Pahang (one) and Terengganu (one).
