Health DG s Mayday call: Over 100 Covid-19 patients surviving on ventilators in Klang Valley alone

PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 situation in the country is getting worse with 108 units of ventilators required to treat Covid-19 patients in the Klang Valley alone. The number is part of the 176 Covid-19 patients on ventilator support across the country on Saturday (May 1). This is 15 more people requiring ventilator support from the 161 people on Friday (April 30). Nationwide, the number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) is now 337, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily Covid-19 update Saturday (May 1). There are seven hospitals dedicated to the treatment of Covid-19 in the Klang Valley encompassing Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

KUALA LUMPUR: Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah ( pix) has described the spread of Covid-19 in the country as becoming critical again and every individual is required to continue complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP). In a post on his Twitter site, he said the people need to return to practising 3C which is avoiding crowded places, confined space and close conversation. “While the practice of 3W - frequent washing of hands, wearing face mask in public places and Ministry of Health (MOH) warning on avoiding handshake and to seek immediate treatment if one has symptoms,” he said.

Over 3,000 new cases for third day in a row

PUTRAJAYA: Covid-19 cases in the country continued its ascendancy, with daily figures for new cases staying past 3,000 for the third day in a row. In his daily Covid-19 update, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported 3,788 new cases in the country yesterday. The country saw 3,142 new cases on Wednesday and 3,332 on Thursday. “Selangor has the highest number of new cases out of all states, recording 1,265 infections, which is 33.4% of the country’s total. “Of Selangor’s figure, 81.4% or 1,030 cases were those uncovered from infection clusters and contact tracing activities, ” said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement yesterday. Another 235 cases in Selangor are sporadic and detected from other Covid-19 screening activities.
