Daily cases breach 3,000

PETALING JAYA: The number of daily Covid-19 cases has once again breached the 3,000 mark with 3,142 new cases reported yesterday – a worrying tally not seen since the beginning of this year. The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country also surpassed the 400,000 mark since the pandemic began last year, with 401,593 cases reported so far. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the total daily cases, 2,950 were locals while 179 were foreigners. “Selangor recorded the highest, with 1,019 cases. Of these, 819 cases were from clusters and screening of close contacts of positive Covid-19 cases carried out in the field.

Infections still high, 13 deaths reported

PUTRAJAYA: The number of patients under treatment for Covid-19 in Malaysia continues to climb up, as infections remain high with 2,733 new cases. This takes the official number of active cases to 25,414, up from 24,713 the previous day. Active cases have remained on an upward trend for more than two weeks. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases yesterday, 27.4% were in Selangor with 750 new infections. “Of Selangor’s total, 75.7% are uncovered from clusters and contact tracing activities, ” he added in his daily Covid-19 update. Five other states also reported three-digit cases – Kelantan with 484 cases, Sarawak (432), Kuala Lumpur (377), Johor (220) and Penang (115).
