PUTRAJAYA: Pandemic fatigue as well as the reopening of many economic sectors are among the reasons for the rise in Covid-19 cases, said the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this could be seen in Malaysia in the past month, after 61,984 Covid-19 cases and 235 deaths were registered in April alone.
“Up to May 3, the number of Covid-19 cases in the world reached 152 million, while deaths have reached 3.2 million.
“Pandemic fatigue is one of the causes for the recent increase in Covid-19 cases.
“Members of the public have become fatigued, and therefore they are complacent in adhering to public health measures.

The Transport Minister noted that the National Security Council meeting had made the decision on April 28.
“Only cargo flights will be permitted at this time.
“The MH-designated flights going viral on social media are all cargo-only flights, ” he said, referring to Malaysia Airlines.
“Flights on passenger aircraft are also empty of people and are used to carry freight comprising pharmaceutical goods, medical supplies, mobile phones, electrical components and courier packages.”
Dr Wee was responding to claims made on social media of the arrival of four passenger flights from India at the KL International Airport on May 1.
He also said converting passenger flights to cargo-only flights had been a practice for Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) for many months now due to the pandemic.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia must avoid a Covid-19 tsunami like the one happening in India, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah as he urged frontliners to buckle down for a drawn-out fight.
In his Labour Day message dedicated to healthcare frontliners, the Health director-general said they were the final line of defence in the relentless battle against Covid-19.
